Version 3.0 - 1st March 1992
============================
Bug fixes
---------
1) When started up from the Finder, Rolfe sometimes continued with the watch
cursor. Rolfe will now always make sure that the arrow cursor is shown.
2) When receiving a long output (e.g <L>ist <C>ontinuous) a user's session
will no longer be ended due to inactivity.
Installation
------------
1) The "Options" menu is renamed "Configure". The "Configure" menu item is
renamed "Setup" and contains those items that are necesary in order for
Rolfe to run. There is a new menu item named "Options" that contains
optional items that enable you to configure the way in which Rolfe works.
The option to have Rolfe log all changes has been moved to the "Options"
menu item.
User interface
--------------
1) Serial port handling is improved so that you can now send characters at
full speed without any pacing being provided by the sending software.
2) The DEL character (hex 7F) is now accepted and operates as a destructive
backspace.
3) The allowable input is now opened up to the full Macintosh character set
instead of just the ASCII character set. This feature is optional and is
configurable under the "Options" menu item.
Filelists
---------
1) There is now a separate Filelists menu, invoked from the Main menu that
contains all Filelist commands.
2) Since both the "<E>dit a filelist" and "<B>rowse a filelist group" menu
items both could be used to edit, they are now changed to "<S>ingle
filelist" and "<G>roup of filelists". Both menus now provide the
same set of commands, subject to authorisation.
3) In the previous version, if a user has no authority to do anything other
than list and search (browse) then, on entering Rolfe, the user is taken
directly to the menu that shows the choice of groups that can be browsed.
This is now extended so that, if the title of the Second Sight menu that
invoked Rolfe contains one of the group names (e.g. if the menu title is
"<----- Graphics Files ----->" and one of the Rolfe group names is
"Graphics") then the user will be taken directly to the "Graphics" group
menu. Upper and lower case are equivalent. This feature is optional and
is configurable under the "Options" menu item.
4) Users with filelist authority but with an access level less that 255 are
now taken directly to the Filelist menu, bypassing the Main menu.
5) In the case where the user is taken directly to a menu, quitting that
menu now returns the user directly to the BBS. Formerly, the user exited
via Rolfe's main menu.
6) When doing a search, there is a new option of specifying that file
descriptions be searched as well as or instead of just the filenames.
7) Commands may now be terminated with a control-c (or Enter or option-c at
the local keyboard).
8) There is a new menu entry "<K>wiklist all files without descriptions".
This gives an abbreviated list with one file per line. It's a fast
method of listing all the files.
9) The display of a filelist entry has been changed so that the
"Marked for deletion" and "Clearance level" fields now show only when the
user is authorized to edit the entry.
10) When you save a change to a filelist entry that you have marked for
deletion, you will now be asked whether you want to delete the file that
the entry refers to.
11) When a filename is changed, leading and trailing blanks are now removed.
12) When a filename is changed, the new filename will be folded to upper case
if the appropriate option is set under the "Options" menu.
13) There is a new <V>erify command for access level 255, that will check for
files that do not exist but which are referenced by the filelist.
14) There is a new <G>ather command for access level 255, that will search
for all the files referenced by a filelist and will move them to the
folder that contains the filelist.
15) An optional feature that is configurable under the "Options" menu item,
allows you to specify that authority to edit a filelist includes the
authority to compress it. If this option is chosen, then "[C]ompress
ALL filelists" on the main menu becomes "<C>ompress all your filelists"
and "[C]ompress the filelist" on the Edit menu becomes "<C>ompress the
filelist". For both commands, for a user with an access level of less
than 255, the compress operates only on filelists that the user is
authorized to edit.
Userlog
-------
1) A new menu provides several new commands that operate on Userlog.
Included are the ability to compress Userlog, to list all users both in
kwiklist and normal format and to search Userlog for a particular name or
for bad characters (e.g. non-ASCII) in the "first name", "last name" and
"calling from" fields. A command is also provided to choose whether
Rolfe should read Userlog in a forwards or backwards direction.
Disk Utilities
--------------
1) A new menu provides several new commands that provide Finder-like
functions. Included are the ability to copy a file, to delete a file or
an empty folder, to show the free-space on all mounted volumes, to list
the contents or a disk or folder with the option to delve into sub-
folders, to move or rename a file or to create a new folder.
Version 2.02 - 20th June 1991
=============================
Bug fixes
---------
1) Fixed a problem that would prevent quitting from the Security Delete menu
if only a single filelist was defined. If, while experiencing this
problem, Quit was chosen from the Macintosh File menu then Rolfe would
bomb.
2) Fixed a problem that would freeze Rolfe if "About Rolfe" was chosen from
the Main Menu and Quit was chosen from the Macintosh File menu before the
About text had finished displaying.
Version 2.01 - 16th June 1991 (not released)
============================================
Bug fixes
---------
1) Fixed a problem that would prevent quitting from the Browse menu if only
a single browse group was defined.
Version 2.0 - 26th May 1991
===========================
Bug fixes
---------
1) It was possible for the mouse cursor to become hidden when using the menu
bar. This is now corrected.
2) The "time remaining" is now shown correctly on the message that gives
you a 1 minute warning of inactivity. Previously, it was unchanged from
the value when the last menu was displayed.
3) When reading a large filelist, Rolfe now ensures that other running
programmes (e.g. a second version of Second Sight) will obtain periodic
processing time.
4) When changing a security entry, the <Q>uit command now operates correctly
in cases where only a single security entry is defined.
Installation
------------
1) The programme no longer has to reside in the same folder as the BBS
programme.
2) Improved config dialogue box:
a) A button is now provided that lets you designate the Home Folder and
the BBS programme name in one operation by locating the BBS programme
via a file dialogue box.
b) The checkbox had been corrected to show "Write to Callerlog" instead
of "Write to Userlog".
c) If you have a previous version of the programme then in order to
prevent you from having to re-specify the config and security
information, a button on the config dialogue now allows you to locate
the previous version of the programme from which this information may
be copied automatically.
d) The Launch file name is no longer specified using radio buttons but is
instead now specified by name.
User interface
--------------
1) All menu commands are now a single character. If too many filelists are
defined to fit on one menu then a continuation menu is presented.
2) Control-C (or the Enter key for a local attach) will now interrupt and
cancel any pending output.
3) If a valid menu choice is entered before the display of the menu has
completed, the display of the menu will be interrupted and the menu choice
will be immediately acted upon.
4) When deleting security records, you will now be prompted for
confirmation.
5) Rolfe now determines the user's preference for linefeeds and adds them
appropriately.
Access level
------------
1) Security flags are now ignored when the user's access level is 255. If
a filelist security access level is set at 255 then Rolfe will no longer
ask for security flags.
2) The clearance level for a filelist entry can no longer be set higher than
the user's own access level.
Filenames
---------
1) The "<E>dit particular filename" command can now find filenames that
contain lower case characters. Previously, you would get a "File not
found" message.
2) When changing a filename, lower case is accepted as is; Rolfe no longer
converts it to upper case.
3) When using the "<E>dit particular filename" command, if more than one
entry matches that name (duplicate entries), then each of the entries
will be retrieved in sequence.
Filelist compression
--------------------
1) For users with an access level of 255, a [C]ompress command has been added
to the <E>dit filelist menu. This enables you to compress the filelist.
That is, it will remove any entries that are "marked for deletion".
2) For users with an access level of 255, a "[C]ompress all filelists"
command on the main menu automatically compresses all filelists that are
defined to Rolfe.
File descriptions
-----------------
1) When editing a file description, rather than just replacing the whole
description, a full set of editing commands is now supplied.
Search/New
----------
1) A new <S>earch command enables you to search for a filelist entry by
specifying a character string that appears in the filename.
2) A <N>ew command (in Browse) now displays filelist entries that have been
added since the user last logged on.
Groups
------
1) Filelists, in addition to being defined to Rolfe singly may now also be
defined to Rolfe as being members of larger groups. For instance, several
filelists that pertain to graphics may be given a "Graphics" group name.
A new <B>rowse command provides full search and list facilities for whole
groups at a time. Where the user's access level allows it, full editing
commands are also available in this mode. Where a user's access level
allows only the browse command and browse groups have been defined, Rolfe
will bypass the main menu on entry and put the user directly into the
browse menu. This forms a powerful file search facility across sets of
filelists for the general user. For such users, clearance levels and
record marked for deletion are not displayed.
Miscellaneous
-------------
1) The <C>hange command had now been renamed to be <E>dit.
2) When editing the <V>ersion of a filename, a carriage return is now allowed
to denote that the version should be omitted.
